The Ministry of Economy announced in a statement, “Under the directives of the Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Al-Bassat, and within the intensive supervisory plan to control markets and protect consumers, the Consumer Protection Directorate continued its field tours of major meat and livestock traders in a number of Lebanese regions. These tours resulted in the arrest of three major traders for violations that included monopolizing some quantities and raising prices unjustified, in clear violation of the applicable laws and regulations. Immediately, reports were issued. Their rights have been seized, and they will be referred to the competent judiciary to take the necessary legal measures.” Al-Bassat stressed that “the Ministry will not tolerate any attempt to monopolize, manipulate prices, or exploit citizens, and that protecting purchasing power remains an absolute priority at this delicate stage.” The Ministry stressed that it “will complete its oversight tours on a daily basis over various vital, food, and consumer sectors in all Lebanese regions, to ensure the regularity of markets and prevent any violations, under penalty of taking the most severe legal measures against them.” Violators. The Ministry called on “all citizens to report any violation or complaint related to prices or monopoly through the Ministry of Economy and Trade’s application on smart phones, which allows complaints to be followed up quickly and transparently.”
