Including Republicans and Democrats… Public accountability of Trump’s senior aides regarding the repercussions of the war with Iran

On Wednesday, US Senators will publicly question President Donald Trump’s top aides on national security issues.

This comes about three weeks after the outbreak of war with Iran, and at a time when the Senate Intelligence Committee holds its annual session on the global threats facing the United States.

It is expected that the escalation in the Middle East will dominate the course of the session, in light of increasing demands from lawmakers, including Republicans close to Trump and Democrats, to obtain fuller details about the war, which has significantly affected the energy and stock markets.

On the other hand, Democrats directed sharp criticism at the administration, accusing it of not adequately informing Congress of developments in the conflict, which cost American taxpayers billions of dollars, calling for holding public hearings instead of being satisfied with the secret briefings that were provided during the past two weeks.

It is expected that the testimonies will include statements from prominent officials, including Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, John Ratcliffe, and it is also expected that they will address the repercussions of the sudden resignation announced yesterday, Tuesday, by one of Gabbard’s senior aides, against the backdrop of the war.
