The Lebanese Nurses Syndicate condemned, in a statement, the attack on health personnel, declaring that it is “following with great concern the dangerous developments of the war in Lebanon, and the attacks recorded during it that targeted some health and nursing personnel and ambulance and rescue teams and forced some health facilities to forcibly close. The union confirms that targeting the health sector and exposing its workers to danger is a violation of humanitarian principles and international laws and conventions that stipulate the protection of health facilities and their workers.”

She added: “In the face of this painful reality, the Nurses Syndicate condemns every attack on the health sector, regardless of the pretexts, and stresses the humanitarian and professional role played by workers in the profession in various health facilities, as they continue to fulfill their mission of saving the wounded, caring for the sick, and serving the community despite the difficult circumstances, pressures, and challenges, in commitment to the profession’s values and humanitarian responsibilities.”

The union called on the international community and the World Health Organization to “pressure to neutralize the health sector and respect international laws and conventions that guarantee the protection of health personnel and ensure the safety of health facilities, allowing nurses, doctors, paramedics and other workers to continue performing their humanitarian and professional duty in caring for patients and preserving human dignity.”

The union affirmed, “Nurses in Lebanon will continue as they have always been in crises, the first line of defense, alongside people and society, performing their humanitarian and professional mission with full commitment and responsibility.”
