After the failure of the information systems in the port of Beirut… State Security recovers funds for the public treasury from the operating company

The General Directorate of State Security – Department of Information, Guidance and Public Relations issued the following statement:

In the context of combating corruption and wasting public money, and as a result of repeated malfunctions in the server system at the Beirut Port, the State Security Office at the Port began its investigations in coordination with the current Port Administration, where the workflow and relevant contracts were reviewed.

Based on the recommendation of the competent judiciary, an informatics expert was appointed to inspect the systems and determine the causes of the defect, as it was found that there was a significant obsolescence in the equipment, in addition to a defect in the design of the network and applications, which led to the disruption of work.

Investigations also showed violations in the contracts signed with the private company that supervises the electronic servers, as a result of non-compliance with the terms and conditions book and the required technical standards. Accordingly, the contracts were terminated at the responsibility of the company, which returned an amount of US$82,580 to the public treasury and waived its dues.

The investigation was concluded and the file was referred to the Financial Public Prosecution to complete the legal procedures.
