Reuters revealed that the Iraqi state oil marketing company, SOMO, asked its customers to submit oil loading schedules within a period not exceeding 24 hours, following media reports indicating that Iran exempted Iraq from any restrictions related to the transit of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a document dated yesterday, SOMO called on contracting companies to expedite providing it with shipping programs, including identifying ships and quantities, “to ensure the continuity and stability of my work.”
At the appropriate time, in accordance with the approved contractual terms.
The document confirmed that all loading ports, including the Basra Oil Port and its associated facilities, “are still operating at full capacity,” stressing the company’s readiness to implement all agreed-upon export programs “without any restrictions.”
This development comes at a time when the resumption of exports is expected to contribute to raising the production of Iraq, a member of OPEC, after its decline to about 800 thousand barrels per day during the past month, in light of the repercussions of regional tensions on the movement of supplies.
