Spain grants more than 600,000 immigrants temporary work permits as part of a campaign to regularize their status

The Spanish government announced on Thursday that it had granted 609,737 irregular immigrants temporary work permits, as part of the latest campaign to regularize the status of immigrants, allowing them to join the formal labor market while their residency applications are being studied.
The campaign, which lasted from April 16 until June 30, included about 1.17 million applications, and targets immigrants who have resided in Spain for a period of no less than five months before the end of 2025, and do not have a criminal record, as those accepted receive a residence permit renewable for one year.
Secretary of State for Social Security Borja Suarez and Secretary of State for Migration Affairs Pilar Cancilla explained that about 160,000 people with temporary work permits were already able to join official jobs as of June 30.
They added that 11,000 immigrants have so far obtained one-year residence permits, while the government continues to cooperate with companies in the construction, tourism, transportation, and health care sectors to facilitate the integration of immigrants into the labor market.
