The Kremlin announced today, Saturday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, held a phone call that lasted about an hour and 25 minutes, during which the war in Ukraine was discussed, ahead of a NATO summit in Ankara.
Russian Presidential Assistant for Foreign Affairs Yuri Ushakov said that during the call, Putin gave a detailed presentation on the course of the war in Ukraine, noting that the US President offered to help end the conflict during the NATO summit in Turkey.
The advisor also said that US envoy Steve Witkoff and US President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner have expressed willingness to visit Moscow.
Meanwhile, an informed source reported that Witkopf and Kushner may arrive in Russia before the end of August, but there are no specific dates. The source told TASS: “Maybe until the end of the summer… but there are no dates.”
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that he spoke to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, during the Fourth of July holiday, and called for “American determination” to help end the Ukrainian war with Russia that has been going on for more than four years.
Zelensky stated that he had a “very good” conversation with Trump, during which they discussed the situation on the front line.
He also said, “There is a real possibility of ending this war, and American resolve will be decisive.”
Zelensky added that he agreed with Trump to “continue our talks” during the NATO summit that will be held this week in Türkiye.
