There is conflicting information regarding the Israeli landing in the town of Nabi Shet at night, which took place near the town’s cemetery, and it was said that its aim was to remove the remains of Israeli soldier Ron Arad.
Yesterday, information was reported about the Israelis taking the Public Security officer who had been kidnapped some time ago to the Prophet Sheet Cemetery in the Bekaa to guide them to Arad’s burial place.
Who is Ron Arad?
Ron Arad is an Israeli pilot, born in 1958. He disappeared in Lebanon in 1986 after his plane crashed during a military mission carried out by the Israeli Air Force over the city of Sidon. It is considered one of the most mysterious cases in the history of the Israeli army.
On October 16, 1986, Arad participated in an air strike that targeted a site in Sidon, but a technical defect led to a shell exploding near the plane, causing it to crash. Arad and his fellow pilot Yishai Aviram were able to jump with a parachute, but the Israeli forces only succeeded in rescuing Aviram, while Arad was captured inside Lebanese territory.
According to Israeli accounts, he was arrested by members of the Amal Movement before he was later handed over to Amal’s security official, Mustafa Al-Dirani. Since then, his trace has been lost, amid conflicting accounts about his fate.
Over the past decades, Israel has conducted several investigations and intelligence operations to find out what happened to him. In 1994, it kidnapped Mustafa Al-Dirani from Lebanon to interrogate him about the case, without obtaining conclusive information.
Israeli intelligence estimates indicate that Arad may have died since the late 1980s, while other reports suggested that he remained alive for years before he later died. But Israel still considers his fate officially unknown in the absence of any conclusive evidence.
Ron Arad’s case has remained one of the most sensitive files in Israel, as successive governments continue to search for information related to his fate or burial place since his disappearance nearly four decades ago.
In this context, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority indicated from sources that “the Israeli army carried out operations in Lebanese territory last night to find the body of Ron Arad.”
