Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty went to the United States to hold meetings with senior officials, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in addition to members of Congress, as part of diplomatic efforts to reduce escalation in the region.
The tour will include his participation in the annual meetings of the Bank and the International Monetary Fund in his capacity as Governor of Egypt at the World Bank, within the framework of strengthening cooperation with international financial institutions and consulting on global economic developments, in a way that supports the priorities of the national economy.
Supporting calm efforts
Abdel Ati discussed, in a phone call with Kaya Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the European Union, the developments in the situation after the US-Iranian negotiations, and they stressed the importance of advancing political and diplomatic solutions.
The two parties stressed the need for continued coordination within the framework of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, in a way that supports calming efforts in the region.
Abdel-Ati also made a series of contacts with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan, and Iraqi, Fouad Hussein, and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, to discuss developments in regional situations. The communications witnessed agreement on the need to intensify efforts to reduce escalation, and to give priority to negotiations as a way to overcome the current crisis.
Contact Washington
In a related context, the Egyptian Foreign Minister received a call from Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy to the Middle East, during which the results of the US-Iranian negotiations were reviewed.
During the meeting, the need to continue coordination and consultation during the next phase was emphasized, in a way that contributes to containing tensions and enhancing security and stability in the region.
