Today, the Ministry of Social Affairs received supplies from the European Union and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support families, especially children, affected by the Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
The Union said, in a statement, today: “In light of the escalation of hostilities in Lebanon and the rising numbers of displaced people, the European Union, through its support for UNICEF, delivered 45 metric tons of emergency supplies to support families affected by the conflict. These supplies were delivered to the Ministry of Social Affairs to help meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the affected families.”
According to the statement, the shipment includes “basic supplies to support children and families who have been forced to flee due to violence, including first aid kits, blankets, winter clothes, plastic mats, water tanks, support groups for teenagers, early childhood development groups, groups for recreational activities, and other emergency supplies.”
These materials will be distributed “through shelter centers and various response centers to support families who were forced to flee their homes.”
Minister of Social Affairs, Haneen Al-Sayyed, said: “While the Ministry of Social Affairs is managing shelter centers and coordinating the humanitarian response on the ground, this shipment, supported by the European Union and delivered through UNICEF, strengthens our ability to respond quickly and ensure that essential supplies reach displaced children and families. In light of a crisis of this magnitude, international support remains crucial.”
For her part, the European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra de Waal, said that the humanitarian air bridge launched today “constitutes the first flight to Lebanon to support those affected by the conflict.”
She added: “In light of this difficult circumstance, and based on our continued assistance, we are working to strengthen our humanitarian support in Lebanon. This shipment of emergency supplies will be delivered to the Ministry of Social Affairs to support the families most in need.”
In turn, UNICEF representative Marcoluigi Corsi said: “In light of the escalation of violence and increasing displacement, children and families urgently need protection and basic supplies to confront this crisis,” pointing out that this contribution “will help reach the most vulnerable children and their families with basic assistance at the time they need it most.”
