Fars Agency: The Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iranian administration

The Iranian Fars News Agency reported that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iran’s administration according to the latest texts exchanged between Iran and the United States.

The agency rejected US President Donald Trump’s announcement to reopen the Strait as part of a “largely negotiated” agreement, describing it as “incomplete and inconsistent with reality.”

US President Donald Trump revealed that an agreement with Iran “has been largely negotiated,” stressing that it will be announced “soon,” in the latest indication that an end to the war and the tension that has been ongoing for months between Washington and Tehran is approaching. Trump said that he had “very good contact” with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Qatar regarding the Iranian file, in light of intense regional diplomatic movements to support efforts to reach a final agreement.

According to Trump’s statements through a message he posted on his account on the “Truth Social” website, he confirmed in a lengthy blog post that he had a “very good” call from the Oval Office of the White House with a large number of leaders in the region, to discuss the Iranian file and the understandings related to a possible peace agreement.

Trump mentioned by name Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Qatari Minister of State Ali Al Thawadi.

He also noted the participation of Pakistani Army Commander General Asim Munir, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Jordanian King Abdullah II, and Bahrain King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Trump explained that the call dealt with “everything related to a memorandum of understanding regarding peace” with Iran, stressing that the agreement “was largely negotiated,” but it is still awaiting final touches between the United States, Iran, and other participating countries. He added that the agreement is currently undergoing the “final completion” stage, noting that the final details and aspects are “currently being discussed” and will be announced soon.

Trump also revealed that he had a separate call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stressing that the call “went very well.” The US President indicated that the upcoming agreement will include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, along with “many other elements” whose details have not yet been revealed.

The US President’s statements come hours after reports spoke of narrowing the differences between Washington and Tehran, with limited points remaining related to the formulation of some final items.

American sources reported that the negotiations have reached advanced stages, while mediations led by Qatar, Pakistan and a number of countries in the region continue to stabilize the agreement and transform the current truce into a broader settlement.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most prominent issues raised in the negotiations, given its strategic importance, as about 20% of global oil trade passes through it, while Washington seeks to ensure its complete reopening to international navigation without fees or restrictions.
