On the sidelines of the 165th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in Amman, the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Raji, held a series of diplomatic meetings during which he affirmed Lebanon’s adherence to the negotiating track and the decision to limit weapons to the state.
During his meeting with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Raji expressed Lebanon’s appreciation for the Jordanian positions in support of the Lebanese state and its institutions, praising the support that the Kingdom provides to Lebanon in various circumstances.
Raji stressed that the Lebanese government took a decision to proceed with a state-led negotiating path, based on the conviction that restoring stability requires official management of this path in a way that preserves the independence of the national decision.
He explained that the ongoing negotiations aim to reach a permanent ceasefire and secure complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories, thus enhancing security and stability in the long term.
The Lebanese Foreign Minister stressed that extending state sovereignty over all Lebanese territory requires that weapons be restricted exclusively to the Lebanese Armed Forces, stressing that the government’s decision in this regard is final and irreversible.
For his part, Jordanian Minister Ayman Al-Safadi renewed his country’s full support for the Lebanese government’s decisions, stressing the importance of strengthening the state’s sovereignty over its entire territory and restricting weapons to its legitimate institutions.
Raji also met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, where he reaffirmed that negotiation is the only way to restore stability and strengthen the state’s authority, stressing the importance of the international community and Arab countries’ continued support for the Lebanese army and enabling it to perform its security and national tasks.
In turn, the Egyptian Minister affirmed Cairo’s support for Lebanon and its readiness to put forward an initiative that would contribute to stopping the war and reaching a sustainable solution.
