Germany crushes Curacao, participating for the first time in the World Cup, 7-1 in Group E

Germany crushed Curacao 7-1 in their opening match at the FIFA World Cup on Sunday, after Felix Nmecha scored the quickest goal in the tournament so far, then won a penalty kick in stoppage time of the first half, which Kai Havertz converted into a goal to extend his team’s lead.

Four-time champions Germany dominated from the start of their Group E match against the smallest country to qualify for the World Cup, and their efforts were crowned with success when Nmecha fired the ball into the corner of the goal after a brilliant exchange with Florian Wirtz in the sixth minute.

A determined Curacao team gave its fans a reason to celebrate when Lievano Comenencia’s deflected shot beat goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to level the score for Curacao.

But Germany quickly regained control thanks to a header from Nico Schlotterbeck and a penalty kick scored by Havertz.

Germany resumed its impressive display after the break, as Jamal Musiala got rid of a Curacao defender and put the ball into the net. Nathaniel Brown then scored in his first World Cup match, before Deniz Undav and Havertz added goals in the final minutes to complete an easy victory for Germany.
