Khalil: We will address, on behalf of the “Development and Liberation” bloc, an official question to the government about its decision regarding the management of Beirut Airport

The representative pointed outAli Hassan KhalilHe pointed out that yesterday, “the government took a decision to establish the institution to manage Beirut International Airport,” indicating that “the reviewer of this decision knows full well that it contains more than one fundamental violation.”

He said: “First: In form, the airport is named ​Rafic Hariri International AirportI do not know why the government ignored this matter, intentionally or accidentally.

Therefore, it needs to stop.”

He added: “But what is most important in this issue is the government’s violation of the applicable laws and procedures, specifically the role of…General Authority of Civil Aviation​ Established pursuant to Law No. 482 of 2002/ because it has the authority and is the responsible body from both the legislative and operational aspects for civil airports in ​Lebanon“.

Khalil pointed out that, “Unfortunately, its opinion was not taken, and a body that was established was bypassed and its establishment was considered an achievement a year ago, in July of the year 2025, and its establishment was considered at that time to be one of the government’s reform steps. Unfortunately, with this decision, we have flouted all the rules of reform.”

He explained, “The second matter is the booby-trapping of the company’s system through Article 7, which says that ownership of the shares of this company belongs to the government, but they can be sold in whole or in part by a decision of the Council of Ministers, and the whole world knows that this is a public facility with a privilege that requires a law. However, to pass in the context of the system that this matter is based on the privatization law is a violation not of an exclusively legal rule, but of a constitutional rule that must be respected.”

Khalil stressed, “This matter will not pass normally for us, and we will address it in the name of the Prophet.”Development and Liberation Block​With an official question to the government about it, and in parallel, we will follow up on this matter to put things right.”
