The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent two letters to the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the Israeli attacks on Lebanon. One of them related to the use of the pesticide “glyphosate” in the southern border villages, and the other related to targeting a Lebanese army vehicle that led to the martyrdom of three soldiers.
The Ministry said, in a statement, that on June 10, 2026, it sent “a letter to the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, which included a complaint based on a report prepared by the National Council for Scientific Research, against the Israeli army’s spraying of glyphosate on February 1, 2026, over a number of southern Lebanese border villages, noting that the Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the use of herbicides as a means of war.”
She added, “Laboratory tests and chemical analyzes conducted on soil samples taken from Aita al-Shaab, Ras al-Naqoura, and Dhahira concluded that the use of glyphosate was used at high concentration rates, reaching a limit of 22,750 micrograms/gram, which is a percentage that is much higher than the rates that are usually recorded in agricultural soil after the direct use of glyphosate by farmers.”
Targeting the Lebanese army
The Ministry also indicated that on June 11, 2026, it sent a second letter to the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the ongoing Israeli attacks.
She said that the letter addressed “the Israeli army, on 6/6/2026, targeting a military vehicle of the Lebanese army on the Kafr Tibnit-Khardali road, which led to the martyrdom of two officers, with the ranks of brigadier general and captain, and a soldier, while performing their national duty in southern Lebanon.”
The Ministry asked the United Nations to “condemn this targeting, take the necessary immediate measures to put an end to these repeated attacks, and ensure compliance with the United Nations Charter and relevant international resolutions, including Resolution 1701 (2006).”
Warning against undermining the diplomatic track
The Ministry considered that the Israeli attacks come at a time when “negotiations are taking place between Lebanon and Israel in Washington, under American auspices, and measures are being put forward to build confidence, stabilize the cessation of hostilities, and create the necessary conditions to reach a peaceful and sustainable solution that guarantees security and stability in the region.”
She added, “Israel’s targeting of members of the Lebanese army directly undermines the aforementioned diplomatic efforts, and threatens the efforts aimed at strengthening the authority of the Lebanese state and extending its sovereignty over its entire territory exclusively by its own forces.”
