Major security error: London police lose a bag of weapons in front of the home of the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan

London police sparked widespread dissatisfaction after they left an armed bag on the sidewalk in front of the home of the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, in a security oversight described as “shocking” in the center of the British capital.

According to media reports, five armed guard officers assigned to protect the mayor forgot the weapons bags after completing their security duty, and they were found by a passer-by in the south London area, before they were later returned to the police forces within seven minutes, according to what media sources confirmed.

Initial investigations showed that the bag contained a Kalashnikov rifle, a pistol, a stun gun, and various ammunition, which turned into a security-worrying scenario in a populated area.

The police decided to temporarily remove the responsible officers from performing their duties, open a full internal investigation to study the reasons for this serious error, and take disciplinary and regulatory measures to ensure that such a leak will not be repeated in the near future.
