An Israeli public opinion poll, following the announcement of a ceasefire with Iran, revealed dramatic shifts in the balance of political power, represented by a clear collapse in the popularity of the Israeli right-wing camp led by Benjamin Netanyahu, in exchange for a remarkable rise of the opposition military movements, according to what was published. The decline of “Likud” and the rise of the opposition camp
In detail, the poll data showed that the Likud Party, despite remaining the largest parliamentary bloc, lost 3 seats at once, settling at 25 seats, which consequently led to the decline of Netanyahu’s entire camp to only 51 seats.
On the other hand, the “Yashar” party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, recorded a qualitative leap, reaching 14 seats, while Naftali Bennett maintained his strength with 19 seats, and Yair Golan strengthened the position of the “Democrats” party with 11 seats, while the “Yesh Atid” party, led by Yair Lapid, continued to decline sharply, which fell to 6 seats.
Popular discontent with the results of the confrontation
Regarding the general mood of the Israelis towards the war, the numbers reflected a state of extreme frustration with the results of the confrontation with Iran, as (56%) of the participants expressed their opposition to the ceasefire decision, preferring the continuation of the military strikes, while (58%) considered that “Israel” and the United States failed to achieve victory.
On the other hand, only a quarter of respondents (25%) did not find that stopping military operations was the right decision or that it achieved the required deterrence goals.
The trust gap between the military and political levels
In evaluating the performance of the leaders, a wide gap of trust emerged between the public and the political level, as the security leaders received wide satisfaction, as (69%) considered that the Chief of Staff managed the battle well, and the Mossad chief received the support of (57%).
On the other hand, the political level received sharp negative evaluations, as (52%) believed that the performance of the Minister of Defense was poor, while approximately half of the public considered that the performance of Prime Minister Netanyahu did not meet the level of field challenges.
The influence of Arab lists and the future of blocs
With regard to Arab representation, the “Front and Change” coalition won 5 seats, as well as the “Unified List” which won 5 seats, while the “Balad” party did not exceed the electoral threshold.
The poll indicated that the scenario of the Arab parties running in the elections on a unified list might raise their representation to 12 seats, which would mean reducing the strength of Netanyahu’s camp to 50 seats, which would deepen its political impasse and render it unable to form any future government in light of the current balances.
