A delegation from the municipality of Sidon, which included the mayor, Engineer Mustafa Hijazi, members of the municipal council, engineer Mohamed Dandashli, engineer Baraa Al-Hariri, and the head of the engineering department, engineer Ziad Hakawati, visited the headquarters of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, where a meeting was held devoted to discussing a project to cancel and modify part of the planning of the South Highway – Jiyeh Al-Zahrani section, especially the planning of the Rumaila – Qusta road, which branches off the South Highway, in the presence of the Chairman of the Council for Development and Reconstruction, Mr. Mohammed. The meeting discussed the proposed plan and its implications on the urban reality, traffic movement, and the needs of the city of Sidon and the region, where an extensive discussion took place about the importance of arriving at the best planning solutions that take into account the public interest, development requirements, safety, and urban planning.
During the meeting, the municipal delegation stressed the need to take the city’s observations and needs into consideration, ensuring a balanced and sustainable treatment for the project, while preserving the rights of the people and the requirements for future expansion and development.
It was agreed to complete the technical discussion, with the Municipality of Sidon studying the plan in detail and putting its observations and suggestions in preparation for presenting them during a subsequent meeting held after completing the necessary technical studies, with the aim of arriving at a final formula that suits the needs of the city and the region.
