Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, received at the headquarters of the Second Presidency in Ain al-Tineh, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Representative Gebran Bassil, in the presence of the political assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Representative Ali Hassan Khalil. The meeting dealt with the latest developments in the situation in Lebanon in light of Israel’s continued violation of the ceasefire agreement and its aggression against the south, in addition to political developments and internal situations.

After the meeting, Representative Bassil spoke, saying: Today I met with the President so that we can follow up together on the proposal to protect Lebanon, because today we are not only exposed to an Israeli war, the systematic destruction of the south, and the systematic displacement of our people in the south, and this thing poses a great challenge to us in that we are not only facing a passing war, but rather we are facing a deliberate change that we must confront with internal solidarity.
He added: But the most dangerous thing is that we are exposed every day to internal vibration, and this is what should push us all to be more careful and fearful for our internal unity, and as it is known that an external war is much easier than an internal war, and this thing makes us all concerned to stand in solidarity to prevent it. That is why we consulted on how we can protect Lebanon, protect our internal unity, and fortify our internal front with solidarity among each other, and how we should translate it. Therefore, we found that broader national consultation is the best way to be able to strengthen Lebanon. We meet these ideas in a comprehensive national way.

The Speaker of the Parliament also received the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office and the UNESCO Representative in Lebanon and Syria, Paolo Fontani, in the presence of the Director of Relations, Director of the Programs and Communications and Information Sector at the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in the Arab Countries, George Awad. The meeting included a presentation of the course of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and its repercussions at various levels, especially the targeting of archaeological, heritage, cultural, religious, educational and civil sites in various southern villages, towns and cities. Especially in Shamaa, Yaroun, Bint Jbeil, and the city of Nabatieh, whose commercial and historical market was targeted.
President Berri stressed the need for all international organizations, especially UNESCO, to do its part regarding these crimes.
In turn, Fontani stressed that the organization is about to hold a conference next June, and Lebanon and these topics will be on the conference’s agenda, which will also address the reconstruction of those places.
Fontane praised the efforts of the Parliament and its cooperation with UNESCO in the legislative areas, especially modernizing the media law.

In the afternoon, President Berri received the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, where they discussed developments in the situation in Lebanon and the region and the latest political and field developments as a result of Israel’s continued aggression and violation of the ceasefire resolution, in addition to bilateral relations between the two countries.
