US President Donald Trump announced that he was “not satisfied with the way Israel dealt with Lebanon,” noting that “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must now be more responsible towards Lebanon.”
Trump said, in a press statement today, that he proposed to Israel “the idea of Syria taking over Hezbollah,” and added: “I told Israel that I do not like its attack on Beirut.”
He stressed that “without me there would be no Israel,” noting that “the war in Lebanon is secondary, and the nuclear agreement with Iran can survive.”
Trump touched on the memorandum of understanding with Iran, saying: “We wanted to go to Iran to obtain enriched uranium, but that did not happen.”
He added that “there are good opportunities to deal with Iran,” claiming that “we blew up the site that contained nuclear dust in Iran.”
Trump had previously raised his desire for Damascus to play a role in the Lebanese file.
The Syrian President in the transitional period, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, resolved the controversy raised by the American President in this regard, and he confirmed during a meeting with notables and dignitaries from Damascus Governorate in the “People’s Palace”, from which the Syrian News Agency (SANA) published screenshots, that what is being circulated in this regard “are nothing more than rumours”, adding that the file of demarcating the border with Lebanon is not a priority at the present time, given the circumstances the latter is going through, including the internal crises and the presence of about one and a half million displaced people.
