Official data showed, today, Saturday, an increase in Turkmenistan’s production of natural gas during the first half of 2026, at a time when China continues to top the list of the largest importers of Turkmen gas.

The government Altin Asir channel reported, citing official data, that the country’s natural gas production reached 39.1 billion cubic meters during the first six months of this year, compared to 38.9 billion cubic meters in the same period in 2025.

Turkmenistan, located in Central Asia, has the fourth largest natural gas reserve in the world, while most of its exports go to China, which has been the largest buyer of Turkmen gas for about two decades, in addition to smaller quantities exported to Uzbekistan.

Despite the increase recorded in the first half, expectations indicate that total gas production during 2026 will be slightly lower than its level last year.

The head of the state-owned Turkmengas company, Muqassat Babayev, announced last April that the country aims to produce about 76 billion cubic meters of gas during the current year.

According to the data, Turkmenistan’s gas production reached 76.5 billion cubic meters in 2025, compared to 77.6 billion cubic meters in 2024.

In the oil sector, Altin Asir channel reported that production continued to rise slightly, recording 4.129 million tons during the first half of 2026, compared to 4.091 million tons during the same period last year.
