What’s nice?! An installation that is part of a larger on-going three part project titled LAK that follows migration routes of white storks. This installation and movie questions an imported version of environmental laws that simply don’t work in politically, socially and economically complex places such as Lebanon. “How nice?” “ takes the story of a stork whose injury prompted his career in Croatia to write a letter to then Lebanese president Michel Aoun asking to impose stricter anti-poaching laws in the country. The installation is built from fragments that speculate on why “stricter anti-poaching” laws are not the sole answer to hunting. The title of the installation itself points to a moment, when surrounded by bird-hunting guns and trophies, people exclaim in wonder at the sight of migrating storks in a video – an almost mundane, yet somehow joyful constellation of contradictions, surrounding the act of hunting in Lebanon.
