Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, considered that the American military presence in the region “poses nothing but threats to all countries there.”

Zakharova said, in a media briefing today, that “the tragic and dramatic events that occur as a result of the war make it clear that the presence of the American armed forces in the region, instead of enhancing security, creates additional threats to all countries in the region there.”

She stressed that Russia hopes that the United States will not launch a ground operation on Kharg Island, saying: “Moscow is hearing speculation about preparations to launch a ground operation on the Iranian Kharg Island, but we hope that this will remain within the scope of statements only.”

Washington is considering the option of a ground operation to control Kharg Island, as CNN reported that about a thousand American soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division are preparing to deploy in the Middle East in the coming days.

On the other hand, the Iranian Tasnim news agency quoted an Iranian military source as confirming that “any attack on Kharg Island will pave the way for Iran to create a state of insecurity in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.”

The source said: “If the enemy carries out any ground action on the Iranian islands, we will open other fronts as a surprise to him,” stressing that Iran has “the will and ability to create a threat to the enemy in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.”

He added: “If the Americans want a solution to the Strait of Hormuz, they should not add another strait to their problems.”
