Wellesley College Framed discount Vintage Postcard

This is a very attractive hand-colored postcard featuring Longfellow's Pond (today known as Longfellow Pond), located 3 miles east of the Wellesley campus. Vintage is 1900-29. It is postally unused and in excellent condition.

The pond itself was formed in 1815 when Rosemary Brook was dammed in order to provide a site for a nail factory. In 1825, the nail factory was discount converted to a paper mill which later was owned by Nathan Longfellow, the pond's namesake. (Nathan Longfellow was a distant cousin to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.) In the late 1910s or early 1920s, the pond became known as Longfellow Pond and today is the site of a popular hiking trail.

Comes in a 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 antique-style gold easel-back frame with 1-color mat and attached triangle hanger for wall mounting. For the old school alumnus. Makes a great anniversary or birthday gift. A hard-to-find vintage collectible!
